SHANGHAI, Nov. 3 (SMM) -- Today, mainstream offers for refined manganese were RMB 12,900-13,000/mt, and manganese prices still slipped slightly.
A number of traders in Ningbo and Dainan have purchased limitedly. A trader in Ningbo said they sold 35mt of goods at RMB 12,900/mt yesterday, and they would purchase today if manganese prices fall further. However, selected traders still stood on the sidelines and said operating rates at manganese producers remained high, but downstream demand was sluggish, leaving further downward momentum for manganese prices.
A market insider said manganese prices slipped currently due mainly to weak demand and relatively sufficient supply, and special attention should be paid to operating rates at manganese producers in the near term.
According to latest statistics, 2-3 idled refined manganese producers in Xiushan region have restarted production; several large manganese producers in Guangxi province resumed production after environment protection; operating rates at manganese producers in Hunan province remained unchanged. In general, operating rates at 84 refined manganese producers with capacity of 5-20kt/yr have fallen to 52% in China (Total capacity: 1.067 million mt/yr).
